Congratulations to the 2018 USA Advocate of the Year Brian Ruane!
Over the past few months we reached out to the ACCA members living in the United States to reflect on how they or their fellow members inspire, lead, support, and raise the awareness of ACCA throughout the country. We had exceptional individuals nominated who perfectly embody the spirit of the 2018 USA Advocate of the Year.
We feel so lucky to have some of the most dedicated ACCA members within our borders. We hear hundreds of inspirational stories of how members proudly promote ACCA in a notoriously tough market. We applaud each and every one of you for your hard work and sincerely thank you for your support. We asked members to look deep into their service to ACCA to show us how they have continued to push the qualification forward and what it has meant to them to be a part of this organization.
And the winner was chosen… Brian Ruane, FCCA!
Brian qualified as an ACCA Graduate in Dublin, Ireland and has worked in accounting, international banking, and global financial services for his entire career. He belongs to a community of thought leaders and global influencer through his network at BNY Mellon and ACCA. Brian is dedicated to building the ACCA brand through his work with Universities, Professional Insights, and conversations with employers. He has also been an active member for the New York City Chapter and a continuous advocate across the US.
His large contribution over the past year was to step into the role as Professional Advisor of the ACCA Student Society: Pace University Chapter which consisted of meeting undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in accounting & finance, as well as using his ACCA story to explain the benefits of our global qualification. He is passionate about recruiting the next generation of finance professionals and making sure they give back in the way that he does. His journey to the ACCA qualification in addition to an MBA from a U.S. Business School is worth the listen if you can get him to tell you the story.
And now, as a global chief executive, he is a perfect role model of how the ACCA qualification has helped him immensely and is widely recognized as he travels to do business around the world.
ACCA is excited to welcome our new Philadelphia Chapter Head!
We are excited to welcome Danish Tayyab to our ACCA USA chapter leadership. Tayyab is a FCCA and a Senior Associate in PwC Philadelphia Assurance team. Danish transferred to Philadelphia from PwC UK. Danish has been working in PwC UK since Nov 2013. Prior to that Danish worked in mid size firm of accountancy in London, UK. Welcome Danish!
Changes for the ACCA USA Staff
We are happy and sad to announcement that our Engagement Manger DJ McErlean-Hopson will be leaving us at the beginning of September. She has been with ACCA USA for the past two and half years where she has helped to build out current programs such as the online chapter, mentor programs, and student societies at our partner universities. We wish her luck in her new adventure at American Express and know she will miss all of the members she had the pleasure of meeting during her time with us. Good luck, DJ!

Our next webinar September 17, 2018 will focus on Managing Micro-Messages.
Have you ever heard the expression, “little things mean a lot”? Whether we are aware of them or not, we are constantly giving and receiving micro-messages. These are subtle, tiny messages we convey through our words and actions that can be interpreted as respectful or disrespectful. Micro-messages can be positive, like a smile, friendly greeting, or act of generosity. They can also be negative, like interrupting, ignoring, or offering less attention or praise. This webinar will explore the nature of micro-messages, their impact on culturally diverse work settings, and tips for managing micro-messages to build inclusive work relationships.
